PURPOSE: Serial attached small computer system interface(SAS) expander connection routing techniques are provided to increase the topology size of an SAS expander network and to restrict entries of contents addressable memory(CAM) storing address positions for system topology.;CONSTITUTION: Address ranges for the physical addresses of devices in the topology of a storage system(502). The address ranges are stored in a lookup table(504). Address range information for addresses of open address frame(OAF) requests is determined by inspecting the addresses of the OAF requests(506). The address range information for the addresses of the OAF requests is used for searching a physical layer index for routing to the devices(508).;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
