PURPOSE: An image processing device for defining a distortion function about a synthetic image at an intermediate view and a method thereof are provided to accurately calculate the distortion function, thereby reducing the amount of bits which are generated when a depth image is compressed.;CONSTITUTION: A distortion area determining unit(102) determines a distortion area based on a warped pixel in a synthetic image at an intermediate view. A distortion function defining unit(103) defines the size of the distortion area by a distortion function of a synthetic image. The distortion area determining unit linearly interpolates the warped pixels to determine the distortion area. The distortion function defining unit calculates the size of the distortion area using the size of a triangle which configures the distortion area. The distortion area determining unit determines the distortion area using an error of a color image and an error of a depth image. The color image is generated in y axis direction.
