PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for initially ranging heterogeneous networks in a wireless connection system are provided to selectively use resources including a good channel state using area extension technology.;CONSTITUTION: A terminal selects a serving cell by considering of the weight value of a base station using a range expansion method(801). The terminal receives a threshold value information and a ranging code classification information of the serving cell(803). When the channel quality of the serving cell is under the threshold value, the terminal selects one of the deteriorated prediction ranging codes using the ranging code classification information(805).
