PURPOSE: A cluster head node selecting method for hierarchical routing protocol of a sensor network is provided to improve the energy efficiency of a cluster head by controlling the distribution number of cluster head nodes. CONSTITUTION: Each node determines if a random variable is less than the probability of becoming a cluster head node(S10). When the random variable is under the probability of becoming a cluster head node, the broadcast of node receives the random variable during the random number time of each node(S20). When another node for which the random variable is under the probability of becoming a cluster head node does not exist within a threshold distance, the node is selected to be the cluster head(S30,S40).
