PURPOSE: A high-speed low-complexity reed-solomon decoding apparatus is provided to reduce a hardware size by eliminating an unnecessary data operation. CONSTITUTION: A KES block includes a first PE(Processing Element)(710) of t+1, a second PE(720) of t+1, and a controller(730). A polynomial calculated in the first PE and the second PE is selected with a control signal which is delivered from the controller. The first PE includes one selector. The second PE includes three selectors. A selector formed in the first PE performs a role of selecting one of a prior value and a polynomial of i+1. The first selector of the second PE performs the same role as the selector formed in the first PE. A second selector plays a role of selecting one of the prior value and the polynomial of i-1. A third selector plays the role of selecting one of zero value and the polynomial of i or i+1.
