PURPOSE: A soil movement tracing device and a method for tracing the movement of the soil using the same are provided to have no possibilities of a radioactivity exposure and to easily grasp a moving route of seafloor soil by tracing the movement of a soil movement tracing device movable with the soil on the seafloor. CONSTITUTION: A soil movement tracing device(1) comprises a housing(100), a GPS unit(200), a weight(300), and a timer(400). The housing comprises an opening/closing member(110). The GPS unit specifies a current location, thereby generating location information. The weight is comprised in the inside of the housing. The timer transmits dropping signals to a controlling unit(500) when current time comes under a set-up time. When the controlling unit receives the dropping signals from the timer, the weight is freely dropped while the controlling unit opens the opening/closing member being comprised in the housing so that the housing is upwardly lifted.
