PURPOSE: A vehicle radar apparatus for rear detection using a main lobe and a grating lobe and a detection method thereof are provided to efficiently detect the rear and rear side parts of a vehicle by allowing main and grating lobes to cover the rear and rear side parts of the vehicle.;CONSTITUTION: A vehicle radar apparatus for rear detection using a main lobe and a grating lobe comprises first and second transmission antennas(111,112), a transmission control unit, a receiving antenna, and a signal analysis unit. The first transmission antenna emits a first radar signal for detecting the rear and first rear side parts of a vehicle. The second transmission antenna emits a second radar signal for detecting the rear and second rear side parts of the vehicle. The transmission control unit time-shares the first and second radar signals. The receiving antenna receives the first radar signal or the second radar signal reflected from an obstacle. The signal analysis unit analyzes the first radar signal or the second radar signal received through the receiving antenna.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
