A method for constructing an ESG(Electronic Service Guide) is provided to remove the ambiguity generated in constructing an ESG data model, thereby efficiently constructing the ESG. Metadata related to respective services are collected, and data of the services are analyzed(202). It is determined whether each of the programs is constituted of one program(206). If the service is constituted of plural programs, one service fragment has plural contents fragments, each of the contents fragments has at least one component, and the component has at least one acquisition fragment(208). If the service is constituted of one program and a data model layer structure of a transmitter is the same as for the plural programs, one service fragment has one contents fragment, the contents fragment has at least one component, and the component has at least one acquisition fragment(210). ESG data are encoded by characteristics of respective fragments(214). The encoded ESG data are collected(216), and the collected ESG data are transmitted in an ESG stream(218).
