PURPOSE: A sun sensor failure detecting device and method for an artificial satellite are provided to rapidly diagnose the malfunction of a sun sensor in case the performance of one sun sensor among a plurality of sun sensors is reduced. CONSTITUTION: A plurality of sun sensors(110) measures the intensity of light and outputs a current. A modeling system(120) models a failure detection function based on a current value of the current outputted from the plurality of sun sensors. A functional application unit(130) outputs a current graph by applying the current value outputted from the plurality of sun sensors to the failure detection function. An error output unit(140) outputs an error value by integrating the current graph for an orbital period of an artificial satellite. A determining unit(150) determines a sun sensor which is out of order according to the error value.
