Apparatus and method for image defogging based on edge information and tone mapping

PURPOSE: A device for eliminating fog from one image based on edge information and tone mapping and a method thereof are provided to estimate a fog value necessary for eliminating a fog component from an input image using a dark channel prior value. CONSTITUTION: An image analyzing unit(110) generates a dark channel prior which shows depth information of an input image. A fog value estimating unit(120) estimates a fog value of the input image based on a value of the dark channel prior. A transfer map generating unit(130) generates a transfer map for eliminating a fog component of the input image. An image restoring unit(140) eliminates the fog component from the input image. The image restoring unit generates a restoration image.
