PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition containing Cyperus papyrus extract for skin whitening is provided to suppress melanogenesis and tyrosinase activity. CONSTITUTION: A cosmetic composition for skin whitening contains 0.001-10.0 weight% of Cyperus papyrus extract as an active ingredient. The cosmetic composition also contains 0.001-10.0 weight% of Pleuropterus multiflorus extract as an active ingredient. The composition is manufactured in the form of skin softener, lotion, nutrition cream, massage, essence, cleansing cream, cleansing foam, pack, spray, or powder. A method for preparing the extracts comprises: a step of washing and drying Cyperus papyrus and Pleuropterus multiflorus; a step of extracting Cyperus papyrus and Pleuropterus multiflorus using water(purified water), low alcohol of C1-C4, or mixture solvent thereof; and a step of filleting and concentrating.
