Microchannel heat sinks are made of graphite material. The heat sink member 300 has at least a first thermal contact surface 308 for thermal contact with the electronic device 312. The heat sink member consists of at least a first sheet 302 of compressed particles of graphite from which the member is peeled off, the first sheet having two major surfaces. At least one of the major surfaces has a plurality of first microchannels 314A formed therein for carrying cooling fluid. Each of the microchannels has a length parallel to the one of the major surfaces and has a cross section 318 perpendicular to the length. The cross section has one or more dimensions of less than about 1,000 microns.
