EGR system diagnostics in diesel consists in determination of gas temperature and pressure in intake and discharge pipes to construct the model for determination of temperature decrease y=ΔT in EGR coolant by engine control unit. Note here that said model vector parameter θ and input vector x. Engine control unit is used to calibrate the model calibration for estimation of system shift h₀ and calculation of the set of primary discrepancies ε (θ₀, x, ΔT), starting from model formula and with application of calibration phase results. Calculation of the set of perfected discrepancies ε_N (θ₀) is executed by mathematical formula subject to the quantity of specimens subjected to diagnostics tests. Engine control unit is used to calculate the diagnostics index S by mathematical formula incorporating correlation matrix R₀ calculated for sound system.
