FIELD: physics.;SUBSTANCE: disclosed method of selecting places for installing seismo-acoustic stations during short-term forecast of earthquakes based on acoustic emission involves detecting acoustic emission in the region of probable installation a forecast acoustic station; on geological maps with scale of 1:50000 or larger, the power of two top layers is estimated; propagation of acoustic waves is simulated; zones with wave amplification due to terrain features are selected; within the selected zones, places are selected where the first rock layer has natural frequencies equal to higher frequencies of probable precursors (500 Hz), and the second - lower frequencies of probable precursors (5 Hz); detailed acoustic shooting is performed in the selected places on a uniform grid of points at a scale of 1:1000 or larger, and places for installing stations are selected based on maximum output of acoustic energy.;EFFECT: high reliability of short-term forecast.;2 cl
