FIELD: medicine.;SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine and may be used for diagnosing masseter dysfunction. That is ensured by preclinical examination of the functional state of masseter. The functional state of masseter is assessed by measuring a difference of surface temperature in rest and maximal jaw compression between a support point and reference points. The support point is found in the middle of a line connecting inside edges of eyebrows. The reference points are found within front bundles of temporal muscles and within the most projecting portion of masseter itself. If the rest temperature difference of the support point and the reference points is 0.2°C, and the load difference is 0.3-0.5°C, the normal state of masseter is diagnosed. If the rest temperature difference is 0.2°C, and the load difference is 0.6-0.8°C, adaptive compensatory masseteric hypertrophy is diagnosed. If the rest temperature difference is 0.3-0.4°C, and the load shows no temperature increase, pathological dystrophy of masseter is diagnosed.
