The device has a base frame (1) provided with collection containers (2, 2'), which are filled with old papers in a form of a stack. The containers are attached at the base frame via collection container holders (5, 5'). The collection containers are provided at a distance from each other such that the collected old papers are bound in a circumferential direction of the stack. The holders are designed in a rotatable manner for rotation of the collection containers. Collection container locking units (3, 3') are arranged at the frame for temporary fixation of the containers. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a bundling device.
