A portable electronic device is disclosed which requires power of a first form, in particular electrical energy, for operation. The apparatus comprises: at least one transducer (11, 18, 12, 13, 19) adapted to convert between at least one second form of energy and the first form of energy required for at least one of the intended functions of the apparatus. In this case, the at least one converter is suitable for converting energy of the second form into energy of the first form in a charging mode and for delivering the same, and the energy of the first form emitted by the at least one converter in the charging mode can be supplied to the device for supplying energy. Particularly advantageously, the present invention can be used to improve the energy efficiency of portable telephones.
