A computer-implemented method of diagnosis for a field bus system, in the bus user (10 – 18) via a field bus (20) according to a predefined communication protocol data exchange, wherein the data exchange takes place in the form of data packets, with the method steps:a) recording of states of the bus stations (10 – 18);b) detecting a data packet, the between the stations of the bus (10 – 18) via the fieldbus (20) is transmitted;c) analyzing the data packet with respect to its information content andd) deriving a updated state of the bus users (10 – 18) as a function of the preceding state of the bus users (10 – 18) and the information content of the data packet;e) recording of the updated states of the bus users (10 – 18); andf) repeating steps (b) to (e), around the actual states of the bus users (10 – 18) to detect, keeping step,g) wherein the diagnostic method, the behavior of the bus users, simulates the internal states and actions, in order to derive the updated state of the bus users.
