Jet generator (1) for generating a focused plasma jet (2) by means of arc discharge with the supply of a flowing working gas (3) witha pin electrode (22);an annular electrode (23) which, at an end face of a concentrically with respect to the pin electrode (22) arranged, hollow cylindrical, electrically conductive jacket (7), which from the pin electrode (23) is insulated, is disposed; anda voltage source (6) for the generation of a periodic sequence of voltage pulses (21) between the electrodes (22, 23), wherein the voltage pulses are such that the arc between two successive voltage pulses (21) in each case is extinguished;characterized bya the pin electrode (22) surrounding sleeve (25) of electrically insulating material, to a surface at least one helical web (26), wherein the web (26) between the inner wall (27) of the hollow cylindrical jacket (7) and the surface (28) of the sleeve (25) of a channel for the working gas (3) forms.
