The method involves exposing combustion pressure and the pressure existing below the piston, where the combustion pressure is generated by combustion stroke of a piston (2) from top of a working space (5). The work space is limited by the piston. A leakage of gas escaping from the work space is assured in area of the piston ring package (11). A controlled small leakage of gas escaping from the working chamber is allowed at piston rings (10a-10d) of the piston ring packet in comparison to the arrangements having slotted piston rings. The leakage is individually measured for each piston ring. An independent claim is also included for a piston ring package with a groove.
