The scanning device (17) has an illumination device i.e. line laser, for producing two light lines (61) in a scanning area (41) on a surface area of a food product (11). A detection device i.e. camera, detects images containing the light lines that are generated through a section of scanning planes. The light lines are defined by light sent by the illumination device. The scanning planes that are not coincided and the light lines are separated from each other, where the light lines are generated with missing products on a reference area. An independent claim is also included for a device for cutting a food product.
