The method involves performing time synchronization for a portion of a node (SLn) such that a first cycle counting state (Cin) is estimated for a second cycle counting state based on an estimation procedure. A controlled cycle counting state (CT) is determined from the estimated counting state with a linear-quadratic regulator (LQR), based on a controlled system (PL), which comprises a compensation factor as a control variable (CV). Frequency ratio of a reference cycle frequency to an internal cycle frequency of the node is estimated, where the controlled state represents synchronized time. An independent claim is also included for a communication network comprising nodes.
