Shell catalytic converter comprises a hollow cylindrical carrier body with a length of 2-10 mm, an outer diameter of 4-10 mm, and a wall thickness of 1-4 mm, and a shell made of a catalytically active oxide mass (I), which is applied to the outer surface of the carrier body. Shell catalytic converter comprises a hollow cylindrical carrier body with a length of 2-10 mm, an outer diameter of 4-10 mm, and a wall thickness of 1-4 mm, and a shell made of a catalytically active oxide mass of formula (Mo 1 2V 2 - 4W 0 - 3Cu 0 . 8 - 1 . 5X1 0 - 4X2 0 - 4 0O n) (I) applied to the outer surface of the carrier body. X1 : elements of alkali and alkali earth metals; X2 : Si, Al, Ti or Zr; and n : stoichiometric coefficient of O, which is determined by stoichiometric coefficients of the elements other than O and its charge numbers in (I). An independent claim is also included for producing acrylic acid by gas-phase catalytic oxidation of acrolein on a catalyst fixed bed, where the catalyst fixed bed comprises the shell catalytic converter.
