The apparatus has a crawler vehicle (1) that moves a cleaning magnet at an inner side of a pane with magnetic force. Cross recessed drive elements are activated in horizontal direction while reaching upper or lower edges of the pane. Cleaning paths are partly cleaned for preventing streak formation by vertical movement of the vehicle with the cleaning magnet. Chain links (4) are equipped with bar magnets. The crawler vehicle is equipped with inductive proximity sensors and with capacitive and optical sensors.
