The method involves fixing an inflexible and/or brittle base material of a component on a conveyor belt (1). The conveyor belt is conveyed to a machining tool (4) e.g. cutting tool, that cuts the base material. Individual portions of the base material are secured on the conveyor belt at a predetermined distance to each other. A residual material is produced after cutting the component, where the residual material is distal from the conveyor belt. Recesses are formed on the conveyor belt, where dimensions of the recesses are larger than dimensions of the component. An independent claim is also included for a device for manufacturing a component comprising a conveyor.
