The method involves circulating steel melts (8) of different alloy composition on casting tapes (5) of independent systems (A,B) subsequently and solidifying the steel melts on casting tapes in hot-rolling process. The casting tapes of the independent systems are arranged in parallel. The alloy constituents of the steel melts are mixed in contact regions of the melts during hot-rolling process to form a composite cast portion. An independent claim is included for hot rolled steel strip.
