The method involves thermally and/or mechanically loading a component (1) by temperature changes. The component is dipped in an aqueous electrolyte (6) e.g. salt solution, for a preset time. The electrolyte is provided in a bath (5) such that bath parameters are controlled. The component is removed from the electrolyte. The component is charged with current (I) in a wet condition by a power supply (7) so that a current flow is caused through a joint (4) between individual components (2, 3) of the component. A voltage (U) between the individual elements is measured.
