The device (1) has an electronic circuit comprising a microcomputer (3) and a memory circuit (5) e.g. EPROM. The circuit is accommodated in a housing (2) and designed to update a basic software of a sensing unit. An interface e.g. RS485interface and inductive interface, is provided for connection and data transmission of the sensing unit. A data carrier interface i.e. universal serial bus (USB)interface is provided for connecting a data carrier (11) e.g. secure digital (SD) card(RTM: stamp-sized flash memory card) and USBflash drive.
