The device has a magnetic stator (1) including a permanent magnet (1.2) and a retaining surface (1.1) i.e. base, for placing on a mounting surface e.g. steel beam, with adjustable retention force. A magnetic rotor (2) including another permanent magnet (2.1) is inserted into the magnetic stator in such a manner that an angle position of the stator determines the retention force between the retaining and mounting surfaces. The angle position and the retention force are adjustable continuously or in intermediate stages, and the rotor is fixed in a desired angle position.
