The system has a memory device e.g. hard disk, storing multiple groups of waypoints e.g. addresses or pairs of location coordinates. An operating device inputs control actions e.g. actuation of a soft key. A processor device selects a waypoint group based on the input control action. The selected waypoint group is utilized for computation of a route that runs along the waypoints of the waypoint groups. A group identifier is assigned to each of the waypoint groups. The group identifier comprises a group name e.g. home, a menu item identifier, a key identifier and/or a speech pattern.
