The method involves converting voltage signal (U) into measurement signal (MS1) by a detection unit (ASIC). The measurement signal (MS1) is transmitted to a microcontroller of electronic trip unit (ETU). The microcontroller is provided with an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) connected to analog input end (AE). A digital measurement signal (MS2) obtained from voltage signal, is transmitted to ADC through input end. The determination of whether measurement signal (MS1) is plausible, is performed based on lower resolution of measurement signal (MS2) by microcontroller.
