The device has gripping devices for gripping work pieces (W1, W2) during loading and/or unloading, where the gripping devices bring the work pieces in a compression station (G1), deformation station (G2) and a finish forging station (G3). The gripping devices have a gripping arm or a robot arm (2) and a rotatator cooperating with a gripping tool (4) for moving the gripping devices. One of the gripping devices loads one of the work pieces in the compression station, and the other gripping device unloads the other work piece from the finish forging station. An independent claim is also included for a method for automatic shaping of metallic or metal-type work pieces.
