The device (10) has an extraction device (20) with a coil for continuously extracting electrical power from a current guiding connection line (65) of a neutral electrode (55) of a high frequency (HF) surgery device (15). A power line (75) outputs the extracted electrical power to a monitoring device (70), and the extraction device is arranged in the connection line. The power line has an energy buffer e.g. battery and capacitor, for intermediate storage of energy. The monitoring device monitors temperature and/or electric resistance at the neutral electrode. An independent claim is also included for a method for providing electrical power to a monitoring device of a neutral electrode of a monopolar HF surgery device.
