The device has an extension device (1) with bellows (10) attached to a region of a joint or a muscle that acts on the joint, and a force generating apparatus controlled by a control device (40). The control device controls the apparatus for producing intermittent elongation in the region of the joint and/or the muscle between pre-elongation and proportioned elongation. A counter holding device has a rail (30) for supporting a body portion e.g. limb (2) such as patient leg, connected with the muscle. The counter holding device has a counter bearing (20) arranged in a side of the bellows.
