The engine has a cam (09) whose guide curve portion (17) comprises a circumferential portion (18) that is changed from a radially maximum distance (27) to a radially minimum distance (23) to guide a piston (05) during intake stroke. Another circumferential portion (19) of the curve portion changes from another radially maximum distance (24) to another radially minimum distance (26) to guide the piston during combustion stroke. A difference between the latter maximum and minimum distances is greater than half to three-fourth of a difference between the former maximum and minimum distances.
