The particle sensor (17) is arranged at a lower pressure side of a turbocharger (5). The particle sensor outputs a signal for switching off an exhaust gas recirculation (14) when a particle concentration is exceeded. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an exhaust system for a turbocharged engine; and (2) a method for protection of components of an exhaust system of a turbocharged engine.
