The device (1) has an inflatable hose seal (4) and a pressure-resistant plate (2), where the hose seal is formed circumferentially on an impact edge (3) of the pressure-resistant plate. The hose seal has a mushroom shaped cross section in an inflated state. The image edge is provided with a rounded groove (5) into which the hose seal is inserted. A gas connection i.e. compressed air supply, is assigned to the hose seal for introducing gases into the hose seal. The gas connection is provided with a non-return valve. An independent claim is also included for a method for sealing a building opening against floods.
