The filter (1) has a sound damping device (4) arranged in a cavity (3) of a housing (2) and comprising a circumferential wall within which a sound damping element is arranged. The sound damping element runs in an axis direction of the wall, and has a micro-perforated sheet or an expanded metal sheet and a web comprising pores with slits provided between warp- and weft wires. A slot is arranged between a lid and the wall, and the wall is open at its upper surface over its entire cross-section. The wall has holes comprising size smaller than wavelength of sound that flows through the filter.
