The method comprises: providing a component made from a ferrous material, which is carburized; determining a diffusion coefficient (D c) of a carbon in an austenite phase of the ferrous material, where a dependent of the D cis considered by an alloy- and ferrous-accompanying elements of the ferrous material; determining process parameters for a carburization of the component to achieve a desired curve of a carbon concentration with the depth under consideration of the determined D c; and performing the carburization of the component using the process parameters. The method comprises: providing a component made from a ferrous material, which is carburized; determining a diffusion coefficient (D c) of a carbon in an austenite phase of the ferrous material, where a dependent of the D cis considered by an alloy- and ferrous-accompanying elements of the ferrous material; determining process parameters for carburization of the component to achieve a desired curve of a carbon concentration with the depth under consideration of the determined D c; and performing the carburization of the component using the process parameters. The D cis determined by a modification of the (D c) of the carbon in the austenite in a binary system of ferrous-carbon. The modification is utilized by the D cof the concentration of the alloy- and accompanying elements and an element-dependent on an interaction factor. The D cis calculated according to an equation as given in the specification. The carburization is a gas carburizing and/or the step of determining the process parameter is carried out during an implementation of the carburization. The step of performing the carburization contains a process control with continuous online-calculation of a time-developing depth profile of the carbon concentration under consideration of the determined (D c), and the process parameters are continuously adjusted to reach a process target value by the parameters.
