The method involves correlating state quantity (xn) of vehicle accumulator (1) with current state of charge of accumulator. An accumulator model is produced as non-linear state space model and is converted by default of time constants with discrete time constant parameter vectors (a1,a2,ak). A state vector is estimated and weighted for parameter vectors based on conditional probability. A correct parameter vector is read out and corresponding state vector is identified based on maximum probability computation. The state quantity of identified state vector is determined. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) device for determining state quantity of motor vehicle; (2) computer program product for determining state quantity of motor vehicle; and (3) data processing program for determining state quantity of motor vehicle.
