The method involves connecting a controller (3) of the apparatus (2) and/or a plant with a human machine interface (HMI) (1) which is interconnected with the apparatus or the plant over a communication link (5).The HMI is one of smartphone, navigation apparatus, digital picture frame and tablet personal computer (PC). The HMI and the apparatus or the plant is capable of identifying themselves mutually. The apparatus/plant or the HMI is checked suitably according to the observation and/or operation of the apparatus or the plant. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) controller with interface for communication with HMI; and (2) program for observation and/or operation of apparatus and/or plant.
