The method involves merging support force into steering gears of introductory steering cylinders (18) through a steering valve (8), where an aperture of the steering valve provides the support force to a hydraulic system (3). The support force is adjusted through the steering valve in dependence of guidance moment resting against a steering wheel (2), where the steering valve characteristic is modulated by an actuator (16). The change in assist force during operation mode is caused by variation of delivery volume or supported by the modulation of the valve characteristic by the actuator. An independent claim is also included for a hydraulic servo steering system comprising a hydraulic system.
