The arrangement has an ignition circuit arrangement provided with an ignition pulse trigger switch and an ignition transmitter (7), where primary and secondary sides of the transmitter are connected with the trigger switch and a discharge lamp (1), respectively. The switch comprises an input power supply i.e. direct current (DC)-DC-converter (8), and a switch unit (S1). A microcontroller (10) actuates the switch unit. A load path (11) i.e. short circuit path, is provided at an output side for a connecting device (2) parallel to the lamp. The load path comprises a controllable switch unit (S2). An independent claim is also included for a method for igniting and supplying power to a high pressure discharge lamp.
