The injector (1) has an actuator body formed as a piezoactuator (3) and held by a holding body (2). A high-pressure piston (6) cooperates with the actuator body, and an injector part is provided with a fuel supply line (8) and an injection port (11). The piston cooperates with a fuel tank (7) that is filled via the fuel supply line and connected with the injection port via a pressure-controlled injection valve (10). A sealing element is arranged between the actuator body and piston. The fuel supply line cooperates with the fuel tank via a non-return valve (9). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a fuel injector.
