The display device (2) has a dial plate (4) provided with a pointing device (6) aligned at an end with information of the dial plate by an actuating device (10). The pointing device has a magnetic section (8) working together with a magnetic actuating element of the actuating device such that a position change of the actuating element during operation of the display device causes adjustment of the magnetic section of the pointing device. The pointing device has a rigid body made of wood, metal, plastic or rubber and a limp body made of natural fibers, synthetic fibers or metal and wire. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a display device.
