The device (10) has an airbag fastening device (12) comprising two fastening elements (14) that are spaced from each other on a vehicle (100). A cross beam (16) is made of a bent wire, and a gas bag is secured in a folded state to the cross beam. The gas bag is secured directly at the cross beam by gas bag tabs by which the curved wire of the cross beam is threaded. A cross member is swingably supported at the fastening elements. A flexible protection element partly surrounds a folded up gas bag. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a gas bag protection device.
