The system (PSS) has a monitoring device comprising motion detectors (D1-D4) for monitoring persons in a therapy area (R), where the motion detectors are designed as radar-motion detectors. The motion detectors are activated by a control unit (S) during opening of an access door of the therapy area, where detectors signals of the motion detectors are evaluated by the control unit. Operation of a medical irradiation device is stopped during detection of the persons in the therapy area. A door locking device (V) locks the access door during operation of the irradiation device.
