The device has a temperature sensor (15) for determining temperature of a heating element (12) such that heat conductivity of a gas sample is determined from difference in temperature between the heating element and the temperature sensor. The heating element and the temperature sensor are arranged in a measuring chamber, where an aperture is provided with the measuring chamber for leading the gas sample. The aperture is closed with a hydrophobic membrane, a flow barrier or a moistening or a heat accumulator layer. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring concentration of carbon dioxide in breathing air in respirating and anesthesia systems.
