The airbag system has an airbag case (14) which accommodates an airbag module (8) and is sewed in a seam (17) with a cover of the vehicle seat in its end areas. The airbag case has multiple tear strap-groups which are spaced from each other. Each tear strap group is divided into two tear straps by a notch. A tear band-width (W) of the tear band of the tear band-group is smaller than the stitch length of the seam.
