The method involves convectively stimulating an inner cover (13) of a hollow profile (1) and a surface (12) of a region (4) foamed by a functional foam (2), where the surface is pressurized by cold air flow (14). Thermal gain of the hollow profile is detected by a thermography camera (15) in thermographic images before, during and after the convective stimulation, where the camera is positioned outside the profile. A position of edges (17) of the region in the hollow profile is exactly determined by computed evaluation of the images of the thermal profile of the hollow profile. An independent claim is also included for an arrangement for determining a position of a functional foam i.e. polyurethane foam.
